A Refining Company

Based in Wichita, Kansas, Flint Hills Resources is an independent refining company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Koch, one of the largest private companies in America. We are the people and technology behind the fuels and other essential products that help move modern life forward.

Built on more than 60 years of refining and manufacturing experience with operations primarily in Texas and the Midwest, Flint Hills Resources plays an important role in producing, marketing and transporting gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, asphalt, heating oils and other refined products people depend on every day.

Our refineries in Minnesota and Texas have a combined crude oil processing capacity of more than 700,000 barrels per day. Crude oil and refined products are transported safely and efficiently through our extensive network of pipelines and terminals across the nation. This is made possible by our entire team, which uses its expertise to continue leading at the forefront of responsible refining.

Corpus Christi

Our two Corpus Christi, Texas, refineries have a combined refining capacity of 350,000 barrels per day and primarily process Texas-derived crude oil to produce transportation fuels for Texas, including San Antonio, Austin, Waco and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

The Corpus refineries also produce aromatics and derivatives, the basic building blocks for making clothing, carpet, tires, protective packaging for food and beverages, and much more.

Team members at this location piloted a real-time air monitoring technology (LDSN) that resulted in reduced emissions. It is now used across Flint Hills sites.

Pine Bend

With a crude oil capacity of 375,000 barrel per day, our Pine Bend refinery located in Rosemount, Minnesota, is one of the most innovative and energy-efficient oil refineries in America. It relies on crude oil primarily from North Dakota and Western Canada to produce a significant portion of transportation fuels people in the Upper Midwest depend on every day and helps satisfy more than 10% of the nation’s asphalt demand. The refinery also produces heating fuels, fertilizer and the chemical building blocks that are foundational to numerous everyday products.

Pine Bend has earned EPA ENERGY STAR® certification for five consecutive years and was the first oil refinery and largest manufacturing facility in the nation to be substantially powered by solar energy.

Pipelines and Terminals

Our team operates more than approximately 4,000 miles of pipeline throughout the Midwest and Texas. The system efficiently moves crude oil, natural gas liquids and refined products. Gasoline, diesel, propane and heating fuel are transported to distribution terminals for delivery to consumers across the United States.

We supply jet fuel to three major airports, including Dallas-Fort-Worth International, Minneapolis St. Paul International and Austin Bergstrom. All of our pipeline and terminal assets are monitored 24/7 by our Pipeline Control Center as part of our Pipeline Integrity Management program.

Products and Services

Our refineries, pipelines and terminals are part of an integrated system of capabilities and businesses that take crude oil and transform it into numerous products people need and use every day.

Long-Term Investments

Since 2000, we have reduced traditional criteria emissions at our refineries by approximately 70% while increasing production. During that time, our refineries have also invested more than $9 billion to improve operations, including new low NOx heaters, high-efficiency cooling towers, state-of-the-art technology for real-time air monitoring, and a first-of-its-kind solar installation to help generate power.
